Most Tarlov cysts do not cause pain, weakness, or nerve root compression. The cysts do not appear to recur (come back) following complete resection (removal) by an experienced neurosurgeon. Acute and chronic pain may require changes in lifestyle and, if left untreated, nerve root compression may cause permanent neurological damage.
