Roxicet Dosage: An Introduction
The dose of
Roxicet™ (
oxycodone/APAP) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- How you respond to Roxicet
- Other medications you are taking
- Other medical conditions you may have.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
For both Roxicet 5/325 mg tablets and Roxicet 5/500 mg caplets, the standard recommended dose is one tablet (or caplet) every six hours as needed for pain. For Roxicet oral solution, the standard recommended dose is one teaspoonful (5 mL, which contains 5 mg of
oxycodone hydrochloride and 325 mg of
acetaminophen) every six hours as needed for pain.
Roxicet contains acetaminophen. It is very important to limit the total dosage of acetaminophen to 4 grams (4000 mg) a day or less. Higher doses of acetaminophen increase the risk of serious liver damage. Make sure to watch for any other sources of acetaminophen, including other prescription pain relievers and many over-the-counter products, such as
Tylenol®. To be safe, all other acetaminophen products should be avoided while you are taking Roxicet, unless you are extremely careful to limit your total acetaminophen use (from all sources added together) to 4 grams per day.
If you do not take any other medications that contain acetaminophen, the maximum recommended dosages are 12 tablets per day for Roxicet 5/325 mg tablets, 8 caplets per day for Roxicet 5/500 mg caplets, and 12 teaspoonfuls (60 mL) per day for Roxicet oral solution. If you take other medications that contain acetaminophen, the maximum Roxicet dosage would be less.
