An Introduction to Oxycodone Side Effects
As with any medicine,
oxycodone hydrochloride can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, some people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in many cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Possible Side Effects of Oxycodone
There are numerous different oxycodone products, including short-acting oxycodone, long-acting oxycodone, and various oxycodone combination products. There may be significant differences in the possible side effects among these various products, especially the combination products that contain additional active ingredients.
However, based on studies of short-acting oxycodone and long-acting oxycodone products, common side effects of oxycodone include, but are not limited to:
- Nausea -- in up to 27 percent of people
- Constipation -- up 26 percent (see Oxycodone and Constipation)
- Drowsiness -- up to 24 percent
- Dizziness -- up to 16 percent
- Vomiting -- up to 14 percent
- Itching -- up to 13 percent.
