An Introduction to Dosing With Methocarbamol
The dose of
methocarbamol (
Robaxin®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- How you respond to this medication
- The severity of your condition
- Other medications you take
- Any other medical conditions you may have.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Recommended Dosage for Methocarbamol Tablets
Methocarbamol tablets come in two different strengths: 500 mg (generic only) and 750 mg. The recommended starting methocarbamol dosage is 1500 mg (three 500-mg tablets or two 750-mg tablets) four times daily for the first two to three days of treatment. Then, the dose should be reduced to 1500 mg twice daily, 1000 mg four times daily, or 750 mg six times daily.
Recommended Dose for Methocarbamol Injection
For most purposes, a single 1-gram (1000 mg) dose of methocarbamol injected into a muscle (intramuscularly) or into a vein (intravenously) is sufficient, after which the person may be switched to methocarbamol tablets.
If absolutely necessary, the dosing may be repeated every eight hours for a maximum of three days. If continued use is necessary, the three-day course of methocarbamol may be repeated, but only after stopping the drug for at least 48 hours.
For tetanus treatment, much higher amounts may be necessary, and you may need to take the medication for a longer time.
