Constipation, nausea, and drowsiness are some of the most commonly reported side effects of oxycodone. Those that are less common and may not be related to the medication at all include migraines, neck pain, and difficulty urinating. Some side effects are potentially serious and require immediate medical attention, including seizures, severe constipation, or confusion.
An Introduction to Oxycodone Side EffectsAs with any medicine, oxycodone hydrochloride can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, some people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in many cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.
Possible Side Effects of OxycodoneThere are numerous different oxycodone products, including short-acting oxycodone, long-acting oxycodone, and various oxycodone combination products. There may be significant differences in the possible side effects among these various products, especially the combination products that contain additional active ingredients.
- Nausea -- in up to 27 percent of people
- Constipation -- up 26 percent (see Oxycodone and Constipation)
- Drowsiness -- up to 24 percent
- Dizziness -- up to 16 percent
- Vomiting -- up to 14 percent
- Itching -- up to 13 percent.
