Available by prescription only, the fentanyl patch (Duragesic®) is a medicated skin patch approved to treat persistent, moderate-to-severe chronic (long-lasting) pain. It should only be used to treat pain that is not adequately controlled with other pain medications and that requires continuous, around-the-clock treatment.
 
Children as young as two years old can use this medication. Before using fentanyl patches in children, talk with your child's healthcare provider about the particular benefits and risks associated with this medication.
