Kadian Drug Interactions

Benzodiazepines
Taking Kadian in combination with a benzodiazepine might increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Serious side effects may also occur. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking Kadian with any benzodiazepines.
 
Cimetidine
There is one report of confusion and severe breathing difficulty in a person who combined cimetidine with morphine (the active ingredient in Kadian). It is not clear if cimetidine interacts with morphine. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
 
Diuretics
Kadian may make diuretics less effective. Check with your healthcare provider before combining Kadian with a diuretic.
 
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
Combining Kadian with an MAOI can cause serious reactions. Do not use Kadian and an MAOI within 14 days of each other.
 
Muscle Relaxants
Taking Kadian with a muscle relaxant may increase the risk of side effects due to both medications. Check with your healthcare provider before combing Kadian with a muscle relaxant.
 
Other Narcotics or Opiates
Use extreme caution when combining Kadian with other narcotics or opiates, as serious side effects could occur. You should only use these medications together with your healthcare provider's approval and supervision.
 
Sleep Medications
Kadian can cause significant drowsiness, and combining it with a sleep medication could lead to dangerous effects. In general, Kadian should not be used in combination with sleep medications, unless your healthcare provider specifically recommends that you do so.
