Flexeril Muscle Relaxer

As a prescription muscle relaxer, Flexeril® (cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride) can help relieve muscle spasms caused by injuries or other muscle problems. This medication is approved for use in adults and adolescents age 15 years old and older.

Although it is not entirely clear as to how Flexeril works to treat muscle spasms, it is known that it mostly works in the brain stem (not in the spinal cord and not directly on the muscles). The medication only works to relieve muscle spasms caused by problems in the muscles; it does not help with muscle spasms caused by problems in the brain or spinal cord.

Before using this muscle relaxer, warnings and precautions should be fully reviewed with your healthcare provider. For example, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medications you are taking (including vitamins and non-prescription medicines), as well as any other medical conditions you may have before starting treatment with Flexeril. Possible side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, and fatigue.
