Zanaflex Medication Information

A prescription muscle relaxant, Zanaflex® (tizanidine hydrochloride) is a short-acting medication that can help treat spasticity. It is usually taken as needed (up to three times daily), and should be reserved for the times of day when spasticity control is most important. It comes in the form of a tablet or a capsule, and is available both in brand-name and generic forms.

It's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the medication's safety information before using it. Possible side effects of Zanaflex include weakness, dry mouth, and drowsiness; however, most people tolerate it quite well. Talk to your healthcare provider before beginning treatment if you have any allergies (including to preservatives or dyes), or if you are breastfeeding, pregnant, or thinking of becoming pregnant.
